Prevention is the Best Medicine
At Z Pediatric Dentistry, we believe the best dental problem is one that never happens. Our preventative care program is designed to give every child a strong foundation for lifelong oral health — starting from their very first tooth.
Dr. Zarina Rasheed provides comprehensive preventative services tailored to each child's age, development, and individual needs. We don't just clean teeth — we educate families, monitor growth, and catch small issues before they become bigger problems.
What We Check at Every Visit
- Growth & Development Evaluation — Monitoring jaw development, bite alignment, and spacing for age-appropriate milestones.
- Soft Tissue Examination — Checking gums, cheeks, tongue, and lips for any abnormalities.
- Oral Cancer Screening — A thorough inspection of oral tissues, recommended even for young patients.
- Orthodontic Screening — Early identification of bite issues that may benefit from future orthodontic care.
- Nutritional Counseling — Guidance on diet choices that protect enamel and reduce cavity risk.
- Scaling & Polishing — Professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Fluoride Treatment — Strengthening enamel and protecting teeth from decay.
- Oral Hygiene Instructions — Age-appropriate brushing and flossing guidance for both child and parent.
- Dental X-rays — Low-radiation imaging as clinically needed to detect decay and monitor development.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth — where most childhood cavities form. They are quick, painless, and can prevent up to 80% of cavities in the back teeth. We recommend sealants as soon as permanent molars erupt.
How Often Should My Child Be Seen?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a dental visit by your child's first birthday or within 6 months of the first tooth eruption — and every 6 months thereafter. Regular visits allow us to monitor development, reinforce healthy habits, and address any concerns early.
First visit tip: Bring your child in before age 1! Early visits build positive associations with dental care and allow Dr. Z to guide you on infant oral health, teething, and diet.
