General

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends scheduling your child's first dental visit by their first birthday — or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing, whichever comes first. Early visits build positive associations, let Dr. Z monitor development, and allow us to provide guidance on infant oral hygiene, diet, and teething.
We recommend check-ups and cleanings every 6 months for most children. Some children with higher cavity risk or developmental concerns may benefit from more frequent visits. Dr. Z will advise you on the right schedule for your child.
Absolutely — you are always welcome in the treatment area. For infants and young children, having a parent present is especially encouraged. Our open office design means you can see everything that's happening at all times, which helps put both parent and child at ease.
Yes — Dr. Z has a special passion for caring for children with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, sensory processing disorders, and other special health care needs. We work at your child's pace, use adapted techniques, and offer sedation when appropriate. Families drive from across Houston to see Dr. Z for this very reason.

Sedation

We offer three sedation options: nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for children with mild anxiety, oral sedation ("our juice") for younger or more anxious children, and IV sedation with a board-certified anesthesiologist for children with significant anxiety or extensive treatment needs. Dr. Z will recommend the best option based on your child's age, needs, and the procedures planned.
Nitrous oxide is a mild, safe sedative gas inhaled through a small mask. It helps children feel relaxed and calm while remaining fully awake and responsive. It wears off within minutes after removal — your child can return to normal activities immediately, including going to school.
Yes. IV sedation is administered with a board-certified anesthesiologist present throughout the procedure. Dr. Z reviews your child's complete health history and current medications before recommending IV sedation, and we follow all American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry safety guidelines. Your child's safety is always our top priority.

Laser Technology

The Solea laser is a state-of-the-art dental laser that uses focused light energy combined with a gentle water spray to perform dental procedures. It eliminates the heat, vibration, and noise of a traditional drill, allowing most fillings to be done without any shots (anesthetic injections). Z Pediatric Dentistry is the only pediatric dental office in Pearland to offer Solea technology.
No! Most patients feel only a gentle cooling sensation from the water mist. There's no drilling sound, no vibration, and for most procedures — no shot. Children who previously feared the dentist often have a completely different experience with the Solea laser.

Tongue Ties & Frenectomy

Signs of a tongue tie include difficulty breastfeeding or latching in infants, painful latch for mothers, poor weight gain, clicking sounds while nursing, speech difficulties in toddlers (particularly with sounds like "t," "d," "n," "l"), difficulty licking, and restricted tongue movement. We encourage you to schedule a consultation — Dr. Z can evaluate and advise you thoroughly.
Dr. Z performs frenectomies on patients of all ages — from newborns (as young as a few days old) through adolescence and even adults. The earlier the release, the sooner your child can benefit. Newborn frenectomies are often performed on the day of the consultation appointment.

Insurance & Payments

We are in-network providers for BlueCross BlueShield of Texas, Guardian Life, UnitedHealthCare, and Cigna. We accept and honor dental insurance plans and will file claims on your behalf. Call us at (832) 321-7151 to verify your specific plan.
No insurance? No problem. We offer CareCredit financing, which allows you to pay for dental care in affordable monthly installments. We accept cash, all major credit cards, and check. Our front desk team can help you explore all available options.
